Jan. 17th, 2009 02:16 pmMy performance evaluation is coming up. I have to do a self-evaluation thing. I hate doing self evaluations. I hate feeling arrogant when I think I do very well on almost everything. I work my butt off there. But what if my view of my work is not synonymous with that of my employer or my co-workers? I mean I have no reason to believe it isn't. Blah, anxiety.
Josie and I are planning our epic road trip (TM) and we think we have a route nailed down. We're just waiting on some people to get back to us about whether or not we can crash on their floors or not. Soon, we'll make an itinerary that we'll try to follow. It is all very exciting.

Jan. 15th, 2009 12:22 amThe upper springs are an outdoor pool, part way up the mountains. The water temp was kinda low at about 39 degrees. It felt a bit more like a warm bath than a hot tub, but it was still nice. The lifeguards were wearing parkas, and toques and scarves, it was weird to be outside in my bathing suit, seeing people wearing heavy coats. When it started to snow a bit, it almost looked magical.
After we soaked for a while in the water, we got changed, and took some photos, which I still need to upload. We drove to our hotel, and checked in. Nice big bed, very comfy pillows, and a tub deep enough for both of us to be in at the same time!
Josie took me out to supper next. We went to a restaurant with a yummy salad bar to start, and then a fantastic steak as my entree. Josie had prime rib with some shrimp.
When supper was done, we went back to our room for some activities I won't discuss here. It's safe to say we enjoyed having a king size bed! We also watched a movie, Nick and Norah's infinite playlist. I am impressed I didn't fall asleep, given that when I'm on the couch I will peacefully doze through a movie, but even though I was on a very comfy bed, I was still awake.
The next morning, we got up, had breakfast (icky), and then walked about the town of banff for a couple of hours. This was great, as we scored some cute sweaters, some fantastic coffee, as well as some candy from their candy store. I'm rationing my sponge toffee, and have not yet touched my licorice! I grabbed some for mom as it is her favorite, and she seemed happy when I delivered it.
We left banff at 1, and stopped in Canmore for lunch at about 1:15. Canmore is still a hard place for me to be, but I am a grown up and deal with my feelings, and I felt okay to be there that day. We hit the road, and after a brief stop for a nosebleed, we made it to Calgary about 2:30. My mom and dad got us both 90 minute deep tissue massages for Christmas, so we booked them for the day we returned from Banff.
The massages were heavenly. They had us in a couple's room, and because I wasn't alone, I felt comfortable enough to remove my underwear, as the masseuse assured me that they did proper draping. It was literally 90 minutes of heaven. It was also the first time ever that someone has massaged my feet. I've never been relaxed enough for that to happen. Of course, the 90 minutes felt like 15 minutes, and it was over far too soon.
Jos and I have decided that we need to do things like that more often. Just get away for a bit. We can camp this summer by ourselves, I have 4-day weekends that can easily be changed to 5 day weekends by offering up a shift, and making up for it earlier or later. As well, we're planning a 10-or-so day roadtrip to Ashtabula and back around in late May/Early June, so that'll be some nice time away. It's amazing how 24 hours of absence from your life can relax you so.
In other news, my sister is still pregnant. Her due date was the 12th of this month, but she's not yet delivered, and I get the impression that she is rather frustrated with that. If she's still pregnant next monday, I get to go to her ultrasound with her, and then to a doctors appt, and they will make a decision whether they will induce, or make her wait longer, or try cervadil, or whatever.
I also found out today that my grandpa is out of the hospital and in long-term care. I'm glad he pulled through after this summer. I was really scared we were going to lose him, and I'm not ready to be without biological grandparents.
We had seats on the main floor, in row K, so we were quite close to the stage. There was a small orchestra right on stage, and the whole show just rocked.
The woman who was to play Roxy was not there, so we saw her understudy. She was amazing. So was the one who played Velma.
I won't say much more because you should go see it for yourself, and I know that at least one person who reads this is going to go see it, so I don't want to spoil the surprises. But it was so good! I'd go see it again.
Lavender smells like dead people.
Dec. 28th, 2008 03:22 pmToday my house is a bit stinky. I think that the garbage disposal hasn't been run for a few days or maybe garbage needs taking out, but anyway, I was downstairs and didn't feel like dealing with the kitchen as it is not my chore. So I grabbed the Air Wick on my desk, and sprayed it.
It was lavender scent.
I literally almost gagged. I used to like lavender. But now, to me, lavender now smells like death. It's okay when I'm at work becuase hey, that's what I do. But to have the Smell of Death (TM) be at my school desk? It seemed so weird. And it really kinda freaked me out.
So I went upstairs, got some non-lavender candles to light, and put on some vanilla hand lotion to sort of mask the smell. The Smell of Death dissipated quickly, and I felt better.
So yeah. No lavender gift sets for me.
Happy $WINTERHOLIDAY

I got my wifey some panda stuff, and a nice nightgown. Ya know, the kind you don't wear for very long before someone takes it off of you.
It was kinda sad when I called my sister because she didn't have enough money for Christmas this year. But considering she's about to have a baby that's not a surprise. When I cooked Christmas supper this past Saturday, she got a gift from Jos and I though, so it's not like she went without. I can't wait for my nephew to be born!
There's a bit of family drama going on. My one uncle is in from Regina, and I guess no one on this side of the family has heard from him, save for my daddy. This uncle dropped his computer off for my dad to fix it, but that's all we heard. I wouldn't care much, we weren't close at all, but his wife (who is a whopping 4 years old than me), just had a baby in July, and I want to see him. But that's how stuff is.
I work again tonight. Yesterday was busy at the hospice, there was family in every room. My patients all went to be earlier than they usually do, becuase their families wore them out. I expect the same today. The cooks in the kitchen with the help of the hospice director, and some board members made a wonderful supper with tonnes of food. They made turduckin (a turkey stuffed with a duck stuffed with a chicken), mashed potatos, stuffing, cabbage rolls (ew), and more desserts than anyone ever needs. It was really fantastic. It's kinda hard working, because it's the last Christmas for everyone there. But at least I can give them care, and make sure they are comfortable and safe and have the best damn last christmas they can.
I work until Saturday, then I have two off. I work one evening shift, and then I took NYE and the 1st off, and my regular days off are the 2 and 3 as well, then a night shift on the 4th, then two more days off! So I work Christmas this year, but I'm going to try to get it off next year, so we can go to Horsefly and see Josie's family.
I hope everyone on my Flist has a fabulous day, and a happy new year :)

Morning...
Dec. 7th, 2008 01:00 pmI'm SO glad we got rid of Shelly!! Or rather, she got rid of her self.
The roomies set up the Christmas Tree yesterday, and this morning is snowing. I blame them becuase now Mother Nature thinks we have permitted her to allow snow to accumulate, and that this is ok. In all seriousness though, we've been really lucky with winter/snow this year. This is the first time it's really stuck.
A friend from Jr. High/High School got married yesterday. I got to see a bunch of the 'band kids', and it was really neat. The bride looked so good and so happy, and it was beautiful. The bride is chinese so they did a traditional christian wedding becuase they are both christians, and then put some elements of a chinese wedding in at the reception. The tea ceremony was very neat. The bride and groom took turns serving tea to their and each-other's parents respectively to symbolize thanks for raising me well. When the bride served tea to her own parents, it was a way of saying goodbye, and when the groom served tea to them it was a thank you for giving me your daughter thing, I think. Both the chinese and 'christian' wedding dresses were just amazing. I'm so glad I got to go.
Being back at work is fantastic. I got hugs from my boss and many of the nurses. They're having a christmas party on the 11 and I'm working, but the party is in the spiritual room at work, so I will pop in for the gift exchange. I've figured out how to make chainmaille christmas tree earrings, so I'm going to make a pair for the gift exchange. With the time it takes, I think that they would equal a value of $15. And they're incredibly cute.
I need to cut down on my coffee consumption. I'm craving a cup right now. So I'm gonna go get one :)
Great Big Sea
Dec. 2nd, 2008 12:40 pmWe got there about an hour early, and that was a good thing. We had time to walk about the Jubilee (which I'd not seen since renovations), and find out where to be so we could beat the mad rush into the auditorium. Josie used her chair because her botox is tomorrow. Anyways, we got there, got to our seats, and I realized I left my book at home. Josie read, and I texted with a friend until the show started, while wheezing from fake smoke. So not necessary.
When they first came out, I wasn't impressed. They didn't really interact with the audience much until about four songs later. But once they got into their groove, as it were, they went back and forth joking and teasing. And the show was just fantastic. The audience really got into the fast songs, and I was on my feet and singing with everyone (except the Josie). The band mixed the paces of the songs with fast and slow, some were absolutely incredible. A song about England stood out in my mind, it was just beautiful.
They did a fun thing with the audience where they had us singing to them. We sang '500 miles' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. It was so funny.
The venue totally made the difference. I saw the band at the Saddledome, and the sound was about a thousand times better at the Jubilee. It was 'sold out to the doors,' and I'm not one bit surprised.
From a woman who wasn't as excited as her wife to be going, I think I had a better time at the show than she did!
Next up entertainment wise is Chicago on Jan 2nd at the same venue, but a bit closer to the stage. It's gonna be fantastic!

Nov. 23rd, 2008 04:54 pmThe housemates, my wife and I did our grocery trip today. It was wonderful. There was no pressure from any of them to add stuff to the cart that was specific for their own lunches. I mean, we got bologna for the entire household, but if I want a pudding in my lunch, I have to buy it myself. When Shelly lived with us, she insisted that the household budget include snack food for her kids, lunch foods for them and her, and insisted that I should buy my own food to bring to work. It was nice to not have to fight with people regarding appropriate choices for the household. I do not miss living with her and the boys one bit.
Tonight after supper, I think we'll do a tidy-up of the house. Sheila, in exchange for me cooking her supper last night is going to help Josie with the litter boxes that Riley and Micah use. This is because they need to be dumped, and I still can't lift something that heavy without lots of pain. I know my kinesiologist has explained to me hurt vs. harm, but if I want to be at all productive this evening, school or housecleaning wise, I need to make sure I don't hurt. If I hurt, I'll take meds, and the meds make me kinda weird. I guess cyclobenzaprine does that. Muscle relaxants are awesome.
Tomorrow I have physio in the morning (boo!) and we're going to have a discussion about back-to-work stuff. My boss won't let the kinesiologist come to the hospice because of confidentiality stuff. So we'll go over my duties, and make sure that I can do all of them before I go back to work. And that is something I'm excited for. I miss the nurses, the patients, the ways that I can help them. It's nice to have a job I love, and I'm incredibly thankful that I got out of the hospital work when I did.
After physio, I'll study, and then do supper. Then, we're gaming. We missed playing last week because the DM's lady had a meeting for her business, but we get to play this week, so I'm happy.
