" I don't reject your Christ, I love your Christ. It's just that so many of you Christians are so unlike your Christ."
- Gandhi
A friend pointed out to me the other day about how the Christian Children's Fund refused over $17,000 in donations to their charity becuase of where the donations came from.
Where did the funds come from? The association of child abusers international? Money stolen from single mothers? The KKK? No.
The money was collected at a major Fantasy/Gamers convention, in memory of Gary Gygax, one of the creators of Dungeons and Dragons, and was refused by the Christian Childrens' Fund because some of it was raised from the sales of Dungeons and Dragons games/merchandise/etc. This is especially sickening, as Mr. Gygax was a long-time donor to this charity.
The Christian Children's Fund claims that $24.00/month is enough to sponsor a child for things like sanitation, food, health care, education, day care, etc. Let's do some simple math.
$24.00*12= $288
$17,000/$288= 59.02
The money raised by these generous gamers could have fed, clothed, and cared for nearly 60 of the most needy children and their families in the world for an entire year, but because the money was raised by evil, satanic gamers, I guess it's just not needed that much. Their organization must have enough righteous, pure Christian donation that $17,000 just wasn't that needed.
This site, and this site explain what happened in more detail, and the former has a link where you can email someone at this organization and tell them exactly what you think.
If you're the type of person who likes to make donations as holiday gifts, consider donating to anyone BUT the Christian Childrens' Fund. A good alternative is Plan USA, which according to one of the websites above is "a worldwide charity aimed at helping those who live in poverty and/or have suffered from a natural disaster." I'm sure that this organization will be thrilled to recieve any donation, regardless of who cares to donate.
