On Saturday the 18th, I injured my back at work. I was boosting a patient up in his bed with another nurse. He was a large man, and we used a slider sheet. However, he didn't budge when we boosted him, and all the momentum that was to boost him up went directly into my lower back.

It was ok at first, but on Sunday it was worse. I ignored it, took some painkillers and went to Jubilations with my family anyways. It was a blast, we saw "Grey's House of Anatomy." Hysterical!

Monday morning I woke up, and could barely get out of bed. I was in immense pain, pain like I've never felt before. I could not get comfortable. Walking down the stairs from my room to get to the couch had me in tears. I suggested to Josie that we take me to the urgent care centre. I hate going to the doctor, so she knew it was serious when I suggested that.

When we got there, I was in about the same shape. I'm surprised I was able to drive there. I didn't wait long until they took me back. I got undressed and into a gown with the help of the nurse, and it took about 5 minutes to convince my body to get on the stretcher, and get me into a semi comfy position - on my side with my knees up. Josie came back in, and we waited for about an hour before a doctor came in. He assessed me, asked my history, and told me he was going to reduce my pain before he did a test to see if I've trapped a nerve.

So, a shot of Toradol in a buttcheek, two percocet down the hatch, and 45 mins later, the doc came in, had me manipulate my legs, and decided that it's not likely that I harmed the nerves but he wants to make sure with a CAT scan. I was told that I was to be on sedentary duties for two weeks at least, and given perscription anti-inflammatories, and muscle relaxants, as well as some percocet to go. They do wonders for the pain, and enable me to move more.

Today was the first day I could really sit up for more than 20 mins at a time. This is good because I have an English final exam tomorrow, and have to be upright for 3 hours. I have to not take the cyclobenzaprine becuase it makes me really sleepy, and not take the percocet. Instead I will just take the toradol, and OTC robaxacet. I'll bring the other two just in case, though I don't want to be groggy for the exam.

I was concerned for a bit that I would lose my job - I'm still in my probation period, and can be fired for any reason. I spoke with my supervisors, and they assured me I was still with a job, and that they understand that this wasn't my fault. I've been told by my one supervisor that they have gotten nothing but positive responses from the nurses I work with! That's a good thing because I absolutely adore my job. I have been having cabin fever, but at least it allows me to get some studying in between hazy-brain naps.

That's my basic update, other than being drugged for the past week, I have been up to studying, and not working. My final english is tomorrow, my psychology final on Tuesday, and my Statistics final on Thursday. My new semester begins Saturday.

Off to bed for me now, because my exam is at 9:00 tomorrow morning! I'm not concerned though, it's a 3-hour exam worth 10% of my mark. Lots of time for such a small weight to my final mark.

Damn girl! You have more pain meds than I do! I wish I could get me some Percocet! The Cyclo is also called Flexerill, and I take 20mg before bed so I can get some fairly decent sleep. I have also had Toradol before but it made me itch and it no longer works for my pain either.
I hope you feel better soon! *Hugs*
There's no reason you should lose your job, because if you are injured on the job and they fire you, that's illegal. You could even get paid time off called workman's comp for missing any time because of injury. Good luck on the exams!
