On Sunday, Josie and I took off to Banff. It was fantastic! For those who don't know, Banff is a town about 90 minutes away from where we live. It's in the mountains in a national park. The landscape is beautiful, and one of the best things about it is the hot springs. I don't know much about the history of them, but it's nice to soak in.

The upper springs are an outdoor pool, part way up the mountains. The water temp was kinda low at about 39 degrees. It felt a bit more like a warm bath than a hot tub, but it was still nice. The lifeguards were wearing parkas, and toques and scarves, it was weird to be outside in my bathing suit, seeing people wearing heavy coats. When it started to snow a bit, it almost looked magical.

After we soaked for a while in the water, we got changed, and took some photos, which I still need to upload. We drove to our hotel, and checked in. Nice big bed, very comfy pillows, and a tub deep enough for both of us to be in at the same time!

Josie took me out to supper next. We went to a restaurant with a yummy salad bar to start, and then a fantastic steak as my entree. Josie had prime rib with some shrimp.

When supper was done, we went back to our room for some activities I won't discuss here. It's safe to say we enjoyed having a king size bed! We also watched a movie, Nick and Norah's infinite playlist. I am impressed I didn't fall asleep, given that when I'm on the couch I will peacefully doze through a movie, but even though I was on a very comfy bed, I was still awake.

The next morning, we got up, had breakfast (icky), and then walked about the town of banff for a couple of hours. This was great, as we scored some cute sweaters, some fantastic coffee, as well as some candy from their candy store. I'm rationing my sponge toffee, and have not yet touched my licorice! I grabbed some for mom as it is her favorite, and she seemed happy when I delivered it.

We left banff at 1, and stopped in Canmore for lunch at about 1:15. Canmore is still a hard place for me to be, but I am a grown up and deal with my feelings, and I felt okay to be there that day. We hit the road, and after a brief stop for a nosebleed, we made it to Calgary about 2:30. My mom and dad got us both 90 minute deep tissue massages for Christmas, so we booked them for the day we returned from Banff.

The massages were heavenly. They had us in a couple's room, and because I wasn't alone, I felt comfortable enough to remove my underwear, as the masseuse assured me that they did proper draping. It was literally 90 minutes of heaven. It was also the first time ever that someone has massaged my feet. I've never been relaxed enough for that to happen. Of course, the 90 minutes felt like 15 minutes, and it was over far too soon.

Jos and I have decided that we need to do things like that more often. Just get away for a bit. We can camp this summer by ourselves, I have 4-day weekends that can easily be changed to 5 day weekends by offering up a shift, and making up for it earlier or later. As well, we're planning a 10-or-so day roadtrip to Ashtabula and back around in late May/Early June, so that'll be some nice time away. It's amazing how 24 hours of absence from your life can relax you so.

In other news, my sister is still pregnant. Her due date was the 12th of this month, but she's not yet delivered, and I get the impression that she is rather frustrated with that. If she's still pregnant next monday, I get to go to her ultrasound with her, and then to a doctors appt, and they will make a decision whether they will induce, or make her wait longer, or try cervadil, or whatever.

I also found out today that my grandpa is out of the hospital and in long-term care. I'm glad he pulled through after this summer. I was really scared we were going to lose him, and I'm not ready to be without biological grandparents.
